Sharpen your skills in small boats this Summer with expert coaching on the beautiful Buffalo River
Head Coach: Ted Haley

Ted started rowing in 1983 at Canisius High School in Buffalo, NY. In 1985, as a high school junior, his boat won the Junior 4+ titles at both the U.S. Scholastic Nationals and the Canadian Scholastic Nationals. In his senior year, his 4+ boat finished first at the U.S. Scholastic Nationals and third at the Canadian Scholastic Nationals. That same year, his boat represented the USA as the Junior National 4-. In 2006 Ted was inducted into the Canisius High School Athletic Hall of Fame.
In 1988 and again in 1989, during his sophomore and junior years at Georgetown University, his Varsity Lightweight 8+ placed first at the prestigious Dad Vail Regatta. In 1989, he was named MVP of his Lightweight team. That summer, he rowed for the West Side Rowing Club in an Intermediate Lightweight 8+ boat that finished first at the Canadian Henley. He was captain of Georgetown’s crew team in his senior year.
Ted has been St. Alban's Head Coach since the team was started in 1993. 2011 was an exceptional year for the St. Albans crews. The Senior 8 won the Stotesbury Cup and the 2nd and Freshman 8’s got silver medals at that regatta. 2017 was also a special season as Coach Haley guided the first ever St. Albans crew to compete at the Royal Henley Regatta in the Princess Elizabeth Cup. Coach Haley has been named All-Met Coach of the Year by the Washington Post in 1997, 2007, 2010 and 2011.
In addition to coaching at St. Albans, Coach Haley has worked at the well-known Craftsbury Sculling Center. He has also coached many summers at Thompson’s Boat Club, where his Boys’ Junior 8+ boats have won three U. S. Rowing Nationals titles, in 1999, 2002 and 2005.
Ted works as a Lower School guidance counselor, Lower School hockey coach and teacher at St. Albans. He lives in Arlington with his wife and two daughters.
